It was only yesterday that Chevron's KS Endeavor jack-up rig caught fire offshore in Nigeria. Now, before anyone has even had time to recoup from the tragedy, it is being met with additional news that Hercules Offshore was also affected by the catastrophe; one of its liftboats was caught in the same fire.
While all 27 crew members of liftboat Mako have been accounted for, two contractors remain missing from the KS Endeavor. The company announced today that the liftboat was overcome by fire in the early hours of January 16, 2012.
It is still too soon to tell how much damage to the environment the Chevron rig fire will ultimately account for. However, the company has already taken immediate action in deploying drilling specialists and well control professionals to the scene of the disaster.
While it is still too soon to say how much damage the environment will suffer, it is never too soon for the employees and crew members of oil rig accidents to seek legal help. An
